Frequently Asked Questions

NotAvailableOnDvd an illegal pirate operation?

The section of American copyright law known as "The Berne Act" clearly states: films unreleased in the United States, including original version of films altered and/or edited for release in the United States, are not protected by American copyright; thus, they are considered public domain. The entire purpose of our company is to provide (otherwise unavailable) films to the serious video collector. We do not offer videos owned by American releasing companies. If a film should become available domestically, or if another seller should offer a better copy, we immediately stop offering it to our clients.
As the old saying goes, all titles on NotAvailableOnDvd.com are believed to be in the public domain. No rights are given or implied. All titles are sold purely for research purposes.

How good are the copies?

The quality varies wildly. While most of our prints are very good, some (because of their rarity, coupled with unavoidable PAL or SeCAM transfer distortions) are less than perfect. However, we guarantee our prints are the very best available in the United States. We try to list the original source for our prints along with a quality rating on the 1 to 10 scale. However, this is a matter of opinion and not fact.
Here's a breakdown of what you might expect from some of our number ratings:
10 - Terrific picture quality. The master is a DVD or Laser Disc and you can expect very little loss of picture quality. Yes, some compression may occur but what do you want for these prices?
9 - Nearly Perfect picture quality!
8 - Maybe one generation from pre-record. May be a bit faded but is generally clear.
7 - Maybe two or three generations away from the original. Colors have shifted a bit from their original places due to NTSC (Which stands for Never Twice the Same Color). Still very watchable.
6 - Watchable but for the must have titles only is my recommendation.

What if I'm not satisfied with the quality of the movies?

Drop us an email and we'll either send you a new copy or a refund or find a way to make you happy. We're here to help folks find movies they're looking for - not to annoy movie fans. But, please, be aware of the quality ratings when you make your purchases.

What is "DVD-R"?

DVD-R is a "home made" DVD. That is, a movie that's been ported over from VHS, tweaked with a time-based corrector, and recorded onto a consumer-grade DVD-R disc. These generally look significantly better than the original VHS. However, be warned, that not all DVD players can handle DVD-R's. If you are unsure of your player's compatibility please visit http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php for a comprehensive list of most older DVD players and their model numbers. We can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of that information. We will not be held responsible if your player can't read such a disc. If you're determined to play your DVD-R on a Mac, we recommend visiting: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and downloading their player.

How can I specify that I want a title on DVD-R?

You don't need to -- we only sell DVD-R’s. No VHS tapes.

What region code are your DVD-Rs?

They are region-free (Region 0)

Do all DVD-Rs come in standard DVD cases?

No. In order to keep shipping reasonable, we ship items either in slip sleeves or small jewel cases.

Will DVD-Rs I buy from you play on my DVD player or PC DVD-ROM?

Although the DVD-R specification is standard, there is a small variations in the manufacturing processes of both discs and players which prevent some discs from playing on some devices. We do not guarantee if discs purchased cannot be played on your player/pc DVD-rom, except for normal manufacturing defect(s).

Do you ship to countries outside the USA?

Yes.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is a flat rate of $2.50 no matter how many things you order and no matter where you are.

I live outside of USA and I want to order. Can you get these videos past customs?

We take precautions such as checking off "GIFT" on the customs form. Value is Stated as $ 1 per disc , unless you have more than 10 then .50 cents per disc. Some countries like beating their citizens up with customs fees. However, we will NOT do anything ILLEGAL. So please know your own nation's laws before ordering! But be rest assured that we will do everything possible to allow for a smooth transaction. So far, we have no seizures.

Do you provide DVD-Rs in formats other than NTSC?

No, sorry.

Do you have cover art available for these movies?

Most of the images that accompany the descriptions of our films are not from the tapes. Instead, they're screen captures or scans of promotional material. Sorry. On the rarest of occasion will a designer friend of ours create cover art - in those rare instances the cover art will be posted in our password protected area or on our Yahoo Group.

How do you charge my Credit Card?

Currently we are using PayPal. They operate a secure server so you don't have to worry about giving your credit card information.

I don't feel comfortable using my credit card online. Do you have an alternative payment method?

Don't be so paranoid! To mail us payment with Money Orders, send a money order with a hand-written/typed list of what you'd like. Also be sure to include an email address so we can send you a confirmation.

Do you offer bulk quantity discounts?

We keep our prices low enough that we don't feel the need to offer discounts for quantity. However, if you'll notice, you can order one film or fifteen and the shipping will stay the same. That's our break to people who order multiple titles.

How long do you take to deliver my order?

We try our best to process our customer's orders within the same day but because of timing issues packages will be completed by the next business day. We send everything USPS First Class, Priority Mail, or Airmail (for overseas orders). No FedEx, UPS, or DHL. Expect a one week turnaround, depending on the number of tapes/DVD-Rs you order.

I still have not received my order. What can I do?

Please Contact Us and we will replace it as soon as possible.

Are you willing to trade?

Yes. I am always looking for titles not available on DVD. Please be aware I may offer these titles for resale unless you say not to. Then I will not.

You've got great movies, but do you have...?

If it is not listed I do not.

You've promised a lot. Do I need to promise anything in return?

Anyone purchasing or even looking at http://www.NotAvailableOnDvd.com must agree that they are not doing so with the intention to entrap us. We are unaware of anything illegal with our site and can't abide anyone that says otherwise. Oh, and please don't turn around and sell what you've purchased here on ebay. We keep our prices low enough that you shouldn't feel the need to make a profit off of us.

What happened to (Insert Title Here)?

Titles that were once on the site that aren't any more have most likely either come out legitimately on DVD in the United States or we have been asked to remove the title by the MPAA. Lots of luck finding it!
